Overview

Day 1. Reykjavik

Make sure there is sufficient timeto explore this diminutive but dramatic capital city. Despite its small size, you won’t be short of things to see and do. To get your bearings, take the elevator to the top of Hallgrímskirkja. This church, designed by famed Icelandic architect Gudjón Samuelsson is one of the most distinctive buildings in town. When you return to earth, visit the city’s other renowned building Harpa Concert Hall, located at the heart of Reykjavík's regenerated harbour – also the home of the Maritime Museum. Speaking of cultural spaces, tour the National Museum to learn the story of Iceland from past to present. The Reykjavík Art Museum houses an impressive contemporary collection including eye-catching pieces by Erró. And, of course, just 50 kilometres outside the city lies Thingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland’s original Viking parliament.

Day 2. Day at sea

Sea days are rarely dull. Take the time to sit back and let the world go by. The ship’s observation decks provide stunning views of the passing ocean. A day at sea gives you the opportunity to mingle with other passengers and share your experiences of this incredible trip or head to our library which is stocked full of reference books. Get an expert’s view in one of our on-board lectures or perhaps perfect your photography skills with invaluable advice from our onboard professional photographers

Day 3. Skjoldungen

On the craggy east coast of Greenland, the stunningly scenic, U-shaped Skjoldungen Fjord is surrounded by lofty snow-capped mountains, dwarf birch, Arctic wildflowers and willow forests ending with the Thrym Glacier. High rock walls, serpentine rivers and large crevasses of ice pillars known as seracs give way to carved icebergs in the fjord that gleam in a white to blue spectrum. You might also have the opportunity to see whales

Day 4. Cruise Prins Christian Sund

The remote and beautiful Prins Christian Sund fjord carves a dramatic path between magnificent granite cliffs and glaciers, offering a stunning panorama of icebergs, rugged peaks and crystal-clear waters. Stretching 100 km at the southernmost tip of Greenland, this long and winding passage separates the mainland from Sammisoq and the Cape Farewell Archipelago, creating a breathtaking waterway that captivates adventurers and nature lovers alike

Day 4. Aappilattoq

Colourful Nordic houses stand against dramatic mountain ridges encircling Aappilattoq, a remote Inuit village in Greenland’s Prins Christian Sund. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, Aappilattoq is home to around 100 rugged individuals who make a living through fishing and hunting. Often called the southernmost inhabited area in Greenland, Aappilattoq is in fact at the midpoint of the east and west coasts

Aappilattoq Community visit

Enjoy an opportunity to meet the local people of the remote settlement of Aappilattoq, in Southern Greenland. The settlement is located on a small peninsula by the Illua fjord. The settlement has been inhabited since the 19th century, originally founded as a trading post in 1922, the main economy remains hunting and fishing today. Around 80 people call this settlement home and today you will have the unique chance to meet some of them for a traditional kaffemik, a celebration with coffee, tea and cakes, which is customarily reserved for large celebrations such as weddings, birthdays or perhaps a cruise ship visit! Chat with the locals and find out what life is like living in this remote community before enjoying their local choir in the beautiful little church. After visiting the folk house, explore the settlement on your own, have a stroll among the colourfully painted homes and enjoy the breathtaking vistas afforded you by being in this remote destination.

Hiking to Innap Qaava

Join us to the hike through the small settlement of Aappilattoq, where the colourful houses and quiet streets give a glimpse of life in this remote village. Along the way, we will pass the local sand football field, a charming spot that reflects the community spirit of the town. We will hike up to the hill, and from this vantage point, the view of Aappilattoq unfolds below, the clustered homes contrasting beautifully with the muted tones of the surrounding tundra. Rocky outcrops and patches of moss and lichen stretch into the distance, revealing the raw, unspoiled beauty of southern Greenland. Standing above the town, the panorama offers a striking perspective where human settlement and the rugged Arctic landscape exist in delicate harmony. Join us to the hike and experience this breathtaking view firsthand.

Day 5. Gronnedal

Kangilinnguit, formerly Grønnedal, is a historic spot in southwest Greenland and an area of exceptional natural beauty. Once a key U.S. WWII naval base, it lies near Ivigtut and the cryolite mine in scenic Arsuk Fjord. Ships navigate a narrow channel past the Kajartalik lighthouse, Arsuk village and Kungnat Bay, where dramatic landscapes unfold, including the towering 4,600-ft Mt. Kungnait and the breathtaking Arsuk Glacier at the fjord's head

Explore Ivittuut Abandoned Mining Town

1.5 hour

Nestled in Greenland’s rugged landscape, Ivittuut is a fascinating ghost town with a rich industrial past. Founded in 1854, it was home to the world’s largest natural cryolite reserve, a mineral essential for aluminum production. During World War II, Ivittuut played a strategic role, supplying cryolite for fighter plane manufacturing while being protected by U.S. forces. The open-air mine, once a vital economic resource, remained active until its closure in 1987, when synthetic cryolite replaced natural extraction2. Today, Ivittuut offers visitors a glimpse into Greenland’s mining history. Explore its abandoned buildings, the vast cryolite excavation site, and an above-ground cemetery, all remnants of a once-thriving settlement. The mine pit, now filled with water, stretches over 755 feet long and 656 feet wide, creating an eerie yet captivating sight. Beyond its industrial heritage, Ivittuut is also a haven for muskox, Greenland’s iconic Arctic mammals. These majestic creatures, known for their thick woolly coats, roam the surrounding tundra, often visible from a distance. With luck, you may spot them grazing near the ghost town, adding a touch of wilderness to this historic site.

Day 5. Ivittut

The deserted mining town of Ivittuut (formerly Ivigtut) was once vital for WWII aircraft production with the world's largest reserve of cryolite, a mineral used in aluminium production. Abandoned houses, the enormous mine pit and above-ground cemetery reveal the history of this settlement. Scattered cryolite chunks on the rocky shore mix with relics like old engines from when Inuit used cryolite for snuff. Now only muskoxen roam this eerie place

Day 6. Nigerdlikasik Fjord And Glacier

Nigerdlikasik, at the end of Kvanefjord, is a remote and relatively untouched wilderness offering solitude and stunning views of steep cliffs, mountains and the Nigerdlikasik Brae, a small glacier ice field. The glacial ice creates dramatic scenery with ice formations, meltwater streams, steep cliffs and valleys. Carved by ancient ice, the fjord's volcanic geology and rare-earth mineral deposits make it visually and geologically significant

Day 7. Nuuk

Home to more than a third of Greenlanders, the capital of Greenland has a thriving cultural scene including the Greenland National Museum, home to the world-renowned Qilakitsoq mummies. Also known by its Danish name of Godthåb (Good Hope), Nuuk's bustling harbour features Nuuk Cathedral and colourful wooden houses, alongside modern architecture. Nuuk also serves as a gateway to Inuit experiences and adventures in the surrounding fjords and mountains

Day 8. Evigheds Glacier

The Evigheds Glacier, a majestic outflow from the Greenland Ice Sheet, carves through the dramatic Kangerlussuatsiaq Fjord, also known as Eternity Fjord. This 75-km-long waterway is a haven for wildlife, with white-tailed eagles and black-legged kittiwakes soaring above. Calving icebergs showcase Greenland's raw beauty, but sadly like many glaciers, it is slowly retreating due to global warming's impact on this fragile Arctic ecosystem

Day 9. Qeqertarsuaq

Qeqertarsuaq is the largest town on Disko Island, Greenland’s largest island, where colourful houses pop against dramatic red basalt mountains. Overlooked by striking Lyngemark Glacier, the area is shaped by its volcanic origin, unique terrain featuring dramatic basalt columns, rolling hills black sand beaches. Thanks to its relatively fertile landscape, it supports unique plant species, such as wild angelica, rarely found elsewhere in Greenland

Open Town Qeqertarsuaq

Explore the picturesque town of Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island, surrounded by towering mountains and pristine waters. Visit the local museum to uncover the island's rich history and the historic church for a glimpse into its spiritual heritage. End your journey with a stroll through colorful streets and a treat at a charming hotel café.

Kuannit Hike

5 hours

Embark on a guided 5 km hike to Kuannit, featuring basalt columns, lush flora like wild angelica, and the unique volcanic terrain of Qeqertarsuaq. Pass local landmarks before enjoying panoramic views of Disko Bay, icebergs, birds, and possibly whales. The 4–5 hour hike offers gradual elevation and scenic resting spots.

Day 10. Eqip Sermia Glacier

Eqi Glacier, or Eqip Sermia in Greenlandic, is one of Greenland's largest and most active calving glaciers, spanning nearly 4 km wide and towering over 200 m. Visitors can almost always witness calving, where pieces of ice break off the glacier's face, creating deafening bangs and giant splashes that send waves across the bay. The contrast between thunderous calving and the ensuing silence provides a glimpse of Greenland's dynamic icy landscape

Day 10. Disko Bay

Sailing through the iceberg capital of the world to Disko Bay, the Ilulissat Icefjord is one of the cruise highlights. Given UNESCO World Heritage Site status, the Ilulissat Icefjord is a popular tourist destination, and thanks to the productive Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, thousands of gargantuan icebergs calve from the Greenland ice cap into the sea. The city of Ilulissat is home to many sled-dogs

Immerse yourself in Ilulissat’s rich heritage with free access to the Icefjord Centre, Art Museum, and History Museum, where Knud Rasmussen’s legacy unfolds. Enjoy a complimentary shuttle connecting all locations and a free drink at Icefjord Centre. Stroll the UNESCO-protected Sermermiut boardwalks, leading to stunning fjord viewpoints.

Arctic Tundra Hike

3.5 hours

Ready for a long Arctic tundra hike? We will start from the pier and walk our way through town where you will see the well-known Arctic colourful houses and continue to the town's power station. Your guide will tell you about the things you see along the way. From here we start the Arctic Tundra hike in rocky terrain and on small paths, having the view of the Disko Bay with you, all along. Your guide will take small stops along the way to tell you about the Arctic nature, what you see and tell you about the Kujalleq Ice fiord. When reaching a little more than halfway you will have a stop at a viewpoint, approx. 20-30 min., to enjoy a local refreshment, take some pictures, talk about the area or just a silenced break. This is also the time where your guide will tell you more about the UNESCO heritage site, which you have an overview on from this spot. After hiking the rest of the way with the Sermermiut area on your right/back side, you will reach the Ilulissat Ice fiord centre where you can take the shuttlebus back, or you can visit the UNESCO heritage site on your own. Note: Hilly terrain, a wooden boardwalk, and small rocky paths. You can choose to avoid the rocky sections by returning via the boardwalk on your own. The route offers an easy walking pace and covers 4–5 km.

UNESCO Icefjord Cruise

1.5 hour

Meet your local captain and board a boat at the pier to set off on your 1.5-hour journey to see the magnificent icebergs, laying at the mouth of the Ilulissat Ice fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These icebergs come from one of the fastest and most active glaciers in the world, Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier, moving around 130ft per day. The size of 66,000 football fields, the glacier is responsible for creating 10% of the icebergs in Greenland. When you reach the icebergs, your captain will navigate through the ice, bringing you as close as safely possible, so you will have plenty of time to take pictures of these enormous chunks of ice, some being as tall as skyscrapers! Please note: It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat, and a scarf. Wear sunglasses and sunscreen. There are steps to negotiate when (dis)embarking the boat, with assistance offered. Tour generally operates rain or shine but may be cancelled in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions.

Day 12. Sisimiut

The second largest town in Greenland, just above the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut remains remarkably ice free in winter and is known as an adventure sports hub all year round. Inhabited for more than 4,500 years by the Dorset, Thule and eventually the Inuit people, dog sledding remains a vital form of transportation. The area is home to humpback whales and Arctic foxes in their summer coat

Day 13. Kangerlussuaq

Once a WWII airbase at the head of Kangerlussuaq Fjord, Kangerlussuaq's history is told at the airport’s museum, showcasing Inuit artefacts. This ice-filled glacial area and tundra is a haven for wildlife, including reindeer, arctic foxes, arctic hare, gyrfalcons and around 10,000 muskoxen
